Steeped in History, Warmed with Friendship

The property on which The Talking Teacup stands is steeped in history as one of the great lots of Andrew Hamilton. Built by William James in 1761, the original structure remains today and comprises the right-front portion of the building. It encompasses the main tea room and the front entrance (not currently used), plus the stairs and upper front room.

Abraham Lapp built the first addition to the house in 1820. This addition makes up the front left side of the building, housing our lounge, main entrance and two upstairs rooms.

In 1880, Charles Massinger built the last addition that now holds our kitchen and upstairs supply room. This addition included the side porch which was enclosed in the 1930s and offers additional seating for our tea room.

An Ox Farm from the 1700s through 1950, this building supported two other businesses prior to The Talking Teacup. Music and piano lessons were given during the 1920s and 1930s within the space that is now our lounge. In this same space was the Ox Bow Barber Shop from 1970 until 2003.
